Mixes – Unexplained Sounds Group

I have found voluminous experimental and ambient music mixes on Mixcloud from this prolific label. These are worth checking out for adventurous but listenable music, artist, and label discovery.

Unexplained Sounds Group is a platform run by Raffaele Pezzella (Sonologyst) to investigate the current underground experimental music scene.

Check them out on Bandcamp and Mixcloud.

Mix – Richard Chartier October 2019 Mix for Dublab’s Between Two Points Radio Show

This is an enthralling spooky 2-hour odyssey. Perfect for your Halloween run-up.

Between Two Points is a monthly transMIXion by Los Angeles based sound artist Richard Chartier for Dublab. A beginning, an end and the layered transitional sonic flow enclosed, ‘between two points’ explores textures, tones, place, and space, featuring experimental, avant-garde, ambient works from the mid-20th century through to our current time. A mysterious progression unfolding for your ears.
originally aired on dublab.com

Richard Chartier is considered one of the key figures in sound art described as “microsound” and Neo-Modernist. Chartier’s minimalist digital work explores the inter-relationships between the spatial nature of sound, silence, focus, perception and the act of listening itself. Chartier’s sound works/installations have been presented in galleries and museums internationally and he has performed his work around the world. In 2000 he formed the recording label LINE exploring the aesthetics of contemporary and digital minimalism.

Chartier (often as Pinkcourtesyphone) began DJing in 1991. Sets can be an eclectic mix, ranging from mid-20th century analog-ica, to post punk synth oddities, to ambient soundscapes, to lounge-y reverberations, to contemporary electronica. Ponderous beats, melodies, & noise nonchalantly mixed into a flowing soundtrack for you, your cocktail, & your inner ear.

Sonoscopia – Disposofónicos

Sonoscopia, along with the Crónica label, form a long-standing epicenter of experimental music in Porto, Portugal, which is quickly being overrun by tourism, gentrification, and high rent – with all of the accompanying devastating artistic and cultural side effects.

Sonoscopia’s recent beautifully designed box set (and pay what you want digital download) is the culmination of a year’s worth of curation and celebration of DIY experimental music production and live performance.

To me, it represents more than just a cool experimental music release. It represents an organic anarchistic sonic antibiotic for the exponentially expanding din of vacuous aural propaganda emanating from an exponentially expanding commercial infection.

Sincerely yours,

Dave Wesley – Portugal

Laurie Anderson – Sharkey’s Night

Imagine blinding snirt (snow and dirt) storms on a flat North Dakota college campus in the early 1980s. This Laurie Anderson track was a ray of sunshine that cut through that cultural snirt and inspired a lifetime of sonic curiosity and exploration.

Realize that Bill Laswell produced this mashup of William S. Burroughs monotone with Laurie Anderson vocals/aesthetics.

Put Night Flight on mute and play this on heavy repeat…  and include in your eclectic mixtapes.
