Guias Sonoras – New Experimental Ambient Label

Hello, followers of Arctic Dub (Sursumcorda). Thank you very much for your interest and support over the years. Since 1998, this label has focused on the dub techno genre and iterations thereof, and now the label is riding off into the sunset… but the Bandcamp page will remain online at https://arcticdub.bandcamp.com.

Many thanks to Gabi and Andre and all of the cool producers who’ve contributed.

Founder, Dave Wesley, has started a new label, named Guias Sonoras, for his evolving experimental ambient drone production. If interested, you can check it out at https://guiassonoras.bandcamp.com and https://guiassonoras.com. Take care! DW

Mix – Richard Chartier October 2019 Mix for Dublab’s Between Two Points Radio Show

This is an enthralling spooky 2-hour odyssey. Perfect for your Halloween run-up.

Between Two Points is a monthly transMIXion by Los Angeles based sound artist Richard Chartier for Dublab. A beginning, an end and the layered transitional sonic flow enclosed, ‘between two points’ explores textures, tones, place, and space, featuring experimental, avant-garde, ambient works from the mid-20th century through to our current time. A mysterious progression unfolding for your ears.
originally aired on dublab.com

Richard Chartier is considered one of the key figures in sound art described as “microsound” and Neo-Modernist. Chartier’s minimalist digital work explores the inter-relationships between the spatial nature of sound, silence, focus, perception and the act of listening itself. Chartier’s sound works/installations have been presented in galleries and museums internationally and he has performed his work around the world. In 2000 he formed the recording label LINE exploring the aesthetics of contemporary and digital minimalism.

Chartier (often as Pinkcourtesyphone) began DJing in 1991. Sets can be an eclectic mix, ranging from mid-20th century analog-ica, to post punk synth oddities, to ambient soundscapes, to lounge-y reverberations, to contemporary electronica. Ponderous beats, melodies, & noise nonchalantly mixed into a flowing soundtrack for you, your cocktail, & your inner ear.

White Winged Moth – Scratch(ed) Music

If you woke up this morning thinking that you’d like to find a masterful evolving experimental drone track, you’ve landed on the right page, in this distant corner of the web.

Not a lot more to say about this other than, “Wow.”

New Musique Concrete – BOTHBOTH by Stuart Chalmers and see monsd

For those of you that follow my music production, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of experimental use of spoken word and low fidelity music collage.

This release (by prolific experimental music artist Stuart Chalmers) is a perfect fit for my esoteric tastes.

I hope you also enjoy it.

Kind regards,

Dave Wesley – Somewhere in northern Portugal

Library Music by Marcus Fjellström

This concept album from the late Marcus Fjellström honors “classic old music libraries used for TV and low budget movie productions in the 1960’s and 1970’s”.

It’s unusual and refreshing, which is ironic given it’s dusty vintage tone.

Definitely a lean back experience – where imaginary educational visuals dance across the visual cortex.

Warm regards,

Dave Wesley – Viana do Castelo, Portugal

Mix – Secret Thirteen – STM 268 – Bérangère Maximin

With so much readily and freely available music at our collective disposal, the role of curator/mixer/DJ is paramount to discovery and a lean back listening experience. Secret Thirteen is beyond prolific at introducing new (to me) curators, producers, composers, and sonic artists.

Check out this mix from Bérangère Maximin, who “puts us on a cinematic trip of minimal, acousmatic, and concrete pieces merged with sound poetry and ambience.”

Best regards,

Dave Wesley – Somewhere in Northern Portugal
