Haunting Gothic Rock From Istanbul – Rain To Rust – Flowers Of Doubt

I was lucky enough to receive this promo in my email inbox on a dark and gray Autumn morning. This is the type of expertly crafted gothic rock that gives inclement weather and depression an attractive patina.

According to a fan review on Bandcamp “Mert Yıldız, who plays almost everything here, attains an enviable tone on his excellent bass and guitar work; echoing greats like McGeoch and Gallup. His strong, vocals eschew theatrical effect for a straightforward power and integrity. The music could be said to straddle the line of demarcation between Post-Punk and the earliest flowerings of Goth, before it became a stylistic straitjacket.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I want to be in this band.

If you’re into The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, The Comsat Angels, etc., this is for you.

Highly recommended.

Richard Chartier is considered one of the key figures in sound art described as “microsound” and Neo-Modernist. Chartier’s minimalist digital work explores the inter-relationships between the spatial nature of sound, silence, focus, perception and the act of listening itself. Chartier’s sound works/installations have been presented in galleries and museums internationally and he has performed his work around the world. In 2000 he formed the recording label LINE exploring the aesthetics of contemporary and digital minimalism.

Chartier (often as Pinkcourtesyphone) began DJing in 1991. Sets can be an eclectic mix, ranging from mid-20th century analog-ica, to post punk synth oddities, to ambient soundscapes, to lounge-y reverberations, to contemporary electronica. Ponderous beats, melodies, & noise nonchalantly mixed into a flowing soundtrack for you, your cocktail, & your inner ear.
